Bubba’s Sulky Lounge

If you’re looking for somewhere to go out at night, and thinking to yourself, “Self, where can I go out that is both the most bizarre place I’ve been to and also the most amazing?”, well, then you can just go to Bubba’s in Portland, ME. If you’re into dancing, you’ll definitely want to check this spot out, mainly because they have a lit-up dance floor, made for dancing. And, you don’t have to be a good dancer either (although I did witness some pretty decent breakdancing), you just need to have fun.

There’s also a back bar and separate room, for more dancing. And, if you’re not really into dancing, there are cushion swivel bar seats and booths near the main bar area. Oh, and, it’s hard not to notice, upon entrance and throughout the entire bar, all of the insanely random and weird $h!t all over the place. We’re talking puppets, metal lunch boxes hanging from the ceiling, old antique items, frames, lamps, pretty much everything. Basically, it’s amazing.

The Shorts:
Name: Bubba’s Sulky Lounge
Location: 92 Portland Street, Portland, ME
The Long and Short: Would I go back? Definitely. It’s a little off the path of some of the other bars, but, you could pretty much spend most of your night there anyway, so, no need to hop around.
Would I recommend it? Yes, it’s at least worth checking out. Dance a little, have a drink, go nuts. There’s usually a small cover charge, so, just have a few bucks on you before you go.

Black Gold Records

I love coffee. But what’s cooler than just another coffee shop, is a coffee shop that’s also a record and antique store. Well, that would be Black Gold Records in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.

Housing vinyls of different genres, you can come and dig through crates to find a record (they’re a dying breed), or, check out some of their less than average antiques like taxidermy or a torso statue of organs.

Whether you’re into all that other stuff or not, there’s also coffee. And good coffee at that. They also have a selection of delicious treats, like cookies from The Good Batch.

I got their own Black Gold Cold Brew. Refreshing and with a great, rich flavor, this cup was just what I needed. Shout out to Zagat for featuring this photo in their favorite Coffee Week photos
