Ice & Vice

Alright, so, everyone keeps saying that Spring is on the way, so, I’ll just go ahead and believe them, even though it’s still 30-40 degrees in NYC. Still, if it’s cold outside, it doesn’t really stop me from eating frozen treats. Especially delicious and unique frozen treats. Ice & Vice is an experimental ice cream pop-up shop, focusing on small, customized batches, with edgy and ultra-premium ingredients. I visited them at one of their weekly weekend pop-ups at the Brooklyn Night Bizarre in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

They offer a handful of flavors that have some familiar elements, and then test the boundaries, giving you something a bit different and unexpected. Because, you can get a boring pint of plain vanilla ice cream at any grocery store, anywhere. I’m bored. But, can you get Nilgiri Tea Leaf, Lemon Charcoal, Salted Caramel ice cream just anywhere? Exactly. And that’s just one of their flavors. On my most recent visit (yes, I’ve had their ice cream before, and I was back for more…poetic), I had their Love & Hate (root beer ice cream with ginger molasses soil). This was definitely something special. It sort of brought in all the nostalgia of a root beer float, but, with a twist. You immediately taste the root beer in a super smooth and creamy ice cream. Then, you have these little crunchy morsels of ginger molasses, adding texture and a rich sweetness to balance everything out.

The Long and Short: Would I go back? For sure, their ice creams are really great and they offer unique flavors I haven’t seen anywhere else.
Would I recommend it? Yes. Step outside your comfort zone and order something different. You’ll thank me later.

Hester Holiday Market

One of the most fun places to get all of your holiday shopping done in NYC is at the pop-up holiday markets. There are a handful of great ones, like Artists and Fleas in Williamsburg, that I’ve vended at, but one worth checking out is the Hester Holiday Market at One Penn Plaza.

There are about 30 amazing vendors there at the convenient and famous 34th Street right near Macy’s, Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. There are booths selling handmade jewelry, accessories, art and artisanal foods and beverages.  I’ll be there selling my Squish Marshmallows (follow on Twitter and Instagram to see what dates I’ll be there) there, by the bag, holiday gift boxes, and even by the piece with the option to have your marshmallow roasted.

I’ll also be sharing my booth with two other amazing vendors. There’s Jam Jar Bakery, selling all natural, made from scratch, pies in little mason jars. They’re ready to eat and super delicious. I even wrote a a previous post here

Also at at the booth is JLR, fun, whimsical pop-art paintings and designs. These are beyond fun and adorable and make incredible gifts for others, or, great artwork for you to hang up in your own space.

You can find a full list of all the other great vendors here.
