Doughnuttery

Tucked inside Chelsea Market, you’ll find Doughnuttery. And, it’s worth finding. The minimum order starts at 6 doughnuts (2 flavor limit per 6 order), but, each one is only about the size of an Oreo, so it’s totally doable.

They make them right then and there, so, you get the fun little experience of watching them go through the machine. Then, each flavor has a unique sugar combination that the mini doughnuts get tossed in.

I went for one of their more popular flavors, Urban Monkey (banana, coffee, and coconut). Now, I got the hints of banana, the coffee and coconut might have been a little too faint for me to pick up on, but this was an awesome little doughnut bite. Coated with sugar, you get a nice crispness on the outside, and the most melty and buttery little, light dough on the inside.

Next stop on my 7 Best Doughnuts In NYC Challenge is The Cinnamon Snail food truck. The truck is serving an all vegan menu, including breakfast and lunch items.

But, I had to go for the donuts…you know, for research. I tried the Vanilla Bourbon Creme Brûlée donut.

So, I’ll always keep it honest. At first glance/meeting, the donut was a bit on the greasy side. But, it’s pretty easy for me to work past that. The donut itself had a really good texture with a mild crunch on the outside from the baked sugar, and soft on the inside. The dough had a very pleasant flavor, although I wasn’t really getting a lot of distinguishing flavors. The top-center of the donut is where you’ll find the Creme Brûlée portion. Again, pleasant, but I wasn’t really hit with powerful or remarkable flavors.

The Long and Short: Would I go back? For donuts, maybe not. But, they seem to have a large breakfast and lunch following, so, I would be up for giving that a shot!
Would I recommend it? As a top donut place to try, probably not.
