The General Muir

Still on my trip to Atlanta, it was time to find a great brunch spot. Now, I’m from NYC, home of the deli (I think that’s our motto?). So, when I see there’s a New York style Deli in Atlanta, well, they have some high bars to meet. I wanted to check out what they had to offer at The General Muir. With a menu full of some classic deli menu items, and some with a twist, the restaurant itself is beautifully light, open and inviting.

I wanted to order both of the platters they offer, but, after being informed that they were for two people (and my dining partner with a specific food allergy), I had to forego and look to the single portion dishes. But, hey, more of a reason for me to go back. Either way, everything sounded amazing, and I decided to order the Fish and Potatoes (smoked salmon over latkes, sour cream, apples, arugula, lemon). This was fantastic. The greens were so lovely, and the lemon and salt with the arugula really actually stood out to me. But then, underneath you really have the treasure. The smoked salmon is abundant and fresh, a simply delicious. The latkes were crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of flavor, and went especially well with the apple sauce and sour cream on the side. It’s not a complicated dish, but it certainly didn’t have to be as fantastic as it was. I’m just a fish a potatoes kinda girl (that can be a thing, right?).

The Shorts:
Name: The General Muir
Location: 1540 Avenue Place, Suite B-230, Atlanta, GA
The Long and Short: Would I go back? Absolutely. It was like a little taste of NYC in Atlanta. And, those platters are calling me.
Would I recommend it? For sure, the dining room is beautiful, the service is great and the food is a real winner. And even if you don’t have time to sit, they have a deli counter where you can grab some deli staples and baked goods to-go.
