Insomnia Cookies

What’s the best remedy for insomnia? A cookie, duh! Well, while it’s not scientifically proven (yet), it can be delicious. And you can get your fix up until 3am at Insomnia Cookies. They have a whopping 40 store locations throughout the US, and luckily, one of them is located in Murray Hill, so I gave them a visit.

What started out as a dorm room idea, the late night college community demanded some fresh baked cookies. And, as many small businesses start, a great concept was born with a demand for stores. They have a select variety of cookies and brownies to choose from. Their locations are open, as well as available for delivery, until 3am.

I tried their Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup cookie. Man alive, these cookies are no joke and super delicious. They’re freshly baked, served up warm, and you just want to wrap it around you like a cookie blanket. The edges are just crisp enough, and the inside is soft and almost gooey. The flavor has a huge punch of peanut butter, with some peanut butter chips, and, of course, a full-on peanut butter cup in the middle. Genius.

The Long and Short: Would I go back? Uh, hell yeah. Or, screw it, I’ll just order them for delivery.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. These cookies are legit.

Sarge’s

A horrible fire completely wiped out this nearly 50 year old restaurant a bit over a year ago. Now, back in action, you can revisit this staple deli, Sarge’s in Murray Hill.

This old school deli serves up all of your deli favorites from pastrami and ruben sandwiches on rye bread, to matzo ball soup to rugelach. I was glad to be back here for brunch, and almost forgot how amazing this place is. You sit down, and boom, right away you’ve got your coffee, pickles, cole slaw and mini bran muffins. Thank you, Sarge’s mind readers.

For my meal, I decided an old Jewish classic, Matzo Brei with applesauce. The dish itself is pretty basic, but it’s so good and such a real comfort food. The great thing about the matzo brei, is that you can transform it into sweet or savory. Add a little salt and pepper, you have a savory dish, add some jam and the apple sauce, and you’ve got sweet. I went the sweet route and was very pleased I did.
