JoMart Chocolates

Yesterday, I stepped foot on some untouched ground…for me, at least. I arrived in Sheepshead Bay at JoMart Chocolates, one of the oldest chocolate shops in Brooklyn, to continue my October Brooklyn Candy Challenge.

If you’re easily overwhelmed, you may have to take a deep breath and exhale before walking in because the shop offers loads of options from hand dipped treats to truffles to chocolate coated marshmallows.

I chose a few pieces to take back, but was told that they’re best known for their marshmallows. So, I chose the Peanut Butter S’Mores Marshmallow, which, sounded like the  best thing ever.

Unfortunately, the mark fell a little short on this guy. This was a marshmallow cloaked in milk chocolate, with a layer of peanut butter and graham cracker. The chocolate and the marshmallow were pretty good, but, I really would have loved for there to be more of a presence from the peanut butter, it didn’t really stand out enough to me. Also, the graham cracker was a bit bland and didn’t have the crispness that makes me think of a real s’more.

But, I was given a bonus chocolate that totally made up for the other piece. It was a milk chocolate skeleton, painted with dark and white chocolate, and filled with dark chocolate pumpkin truffle. The pumpkin notes really came through in this chocolate and the truffle was rich and creamy. Happy Halloween.

The Shorts:
Name: JoMart Chocolates
Location: 2917 Avenue R, Brooklyn or online
The Long and Short: Would I buy it again?Honestly, the trek for me was over an hour, so, I might just have to say that I’ve checked this shop off my list.
Would I recommend it? Unless you live out there, I don’t know if I would make a point of it.
