The other night, I went to Booker And Dax in the East Village. Formerly the location of Momofuku’s Milk Bar, they’ve moved the dessert spot across the street and made way for a cocktail bar.
The ambiance is great, dim lighting, killer playlist and seating is at communal tables.
I tried a couple different cocktails there, one of them was Son of a Peach, mezcal, tequila, canned peach, lime and umeboshi vinegar. It sounded great, and I figured, I’d pay homage to the restaurant as well (Momofuku translates to “lucky peach”). I really liked it. Served with a giant single ice cube, this drink was sweet, but not too sweet, and potent, a perfect combination.
They also offer some snacks to soak up some of the booze. I went for the Steamed Shiitake Buns. These. Were. Amazing. The buns are soft and pillowy. Inside are shiitake mushrooms, tender and glazed in a sweet, slightly savory, sauce that I would describe as a miso/soy glaze. Thin sliced cucumbers offer a fresh crunch component. And, served with Sriracha on the side. Boom.

The Long and Short: Would I go back? Definitely. It’s a great spot to have a beverage, a snack and some conversation.
Would I recommend it? You bet.
