The next place on my 12 Best Bakeries In NYC Challenge from Gothamist’s list is Maison Kayser.
Now, I usually get weary with chains, so, I was hoping this Parisian bakery and restaurant could change my mind. They serve an array of baked goods from baguettes to cookies and also have an adjoining restaurant with a full menu.
I went for my usual combination of one sweet and one savory baked good (for balanced research, of course). First, I had their Mini Monge with seeds. I really liked this one. It was crunchy and crisp on the outside and doughy and soft on the inside. The seeds also added a great flavor.
Then, I tried the Sugar Brioche. Another great one. This bun had the airiest, lightest, softest texture. The large granules of sugar on top added a nice sweetness to the eggy-buttery flavor of the Brioche.
