Little Pie Company

Well, it’s National Cherry Pie Day. Yup, it’s a holiday, and I’m celebrating. So, when it came to figuring out where to partake in such an auspicious occasion, I figured I’d go to Little Pie Company in Hells Kitchen.

Since 1985, they bake everything right there in the shop from scratch, using the finest and freshest ingredients. Which also leads to an amazing, wafting pie smell on the street outside. Not a bad way to lure people in.

They also have some other baked goods, but really specializing in their pies. They have full sized, mini-sized and by the slice (insider tip: if you’re just wanting a slice, and you’re particular about the flavor, you might want to call before visiting since they only cut up three different pies per day at random).

Well, of course I had their Monmorency Cherry Pie (Monmorency Cherries, lattice crust), and since they weren’t cutting it by the slice, I went for the mini 5-incher (which is pretty much an individual serving for me anyway). You can eat it as-is, but if you’re heading somewhere with an oven, they recommend serving it warm. I took their direction, and it was delightful. It has a really nice buttery crust, soft and slightly crisp on the outside. Since the pie has a lattice crust, it really leaves most of the room here for the cherries, which, I’m certainly not complaining. They’re plump and juicy, a bit tart but mostly sweet, a really delicious combination with the buttery richness of the crust.

The Shorts:
Name: Little Pie Company
Location: 424 West 43 Street, NYC
The Long and Short: Would I go back? National Pi day is just around the corner, I may just have to celebrate here again for that.
Would I recommend it? Yes, they have a number of amazing flavors, and if you can’t make it to the store, they also ship online.
