Vegetarians and Vegans rejoice, you have a new place to get your grub on. Bombay Sandwich Co. is serving Indian influenced vegetarian and vegan sandwiches, salads, and smoothies in Chelsea.
You can take a seat at a strip of counter seating, or take your food to go. Either way, each delicious sounding item will taste just as good. And, even a carnivore can appreciate the variety of options.
I got their Smorgasburg Sweet Potato (sweet potato with spring onion, dried cranberry, ginger, cilantro and carom seed, topped on the outside with date chutney, green chutney, pickled carrots and crunchy chickpea flakes, and grilled 7 grain bread). This sucker packed a lot of complexity in both flavor and texture. It was really delicious and unlike any sandwich I’ve had. Cut into four pieces, on top you have dollops of the green chutney and picked carrots giving it a nice salty and picked flavor. The carrots and the chickpea flakes give it a little crispness in texture along with the crunch of the grilled bread. To offset that salty flavor, you have the sweetness from the date chutney, sweet potato and dried cranberries. The creaminess of the sweet potato adds a nice contrast and balances out all the other textures of the sandwich.
The Shorts:
Name: Bombay Sandwich Co.
Location: 48 West 27th Street, NYC
The Long and Short: Would I go back? For sure!
Would I recommend it? Yes. And, they have lots of Gluten Free options as well. Oh, and when they ask you if you want hot sauce, take it. I got mine on the side just to try it, and it’s pretty bomb. They make it in house and its got a great kick to it with a slight sweetness.
Really like the new format.
The sandwhich you described had me salivating. Will put this place on my list.
