Wild Goose Tavern

This past weekend I was in Cape Cod for the holiday weekend. First time there, and a short stay, but was able to squeeze in some delicious food at Wild Goose Tavern in Chatham.

Set in a classic, beach meets yacht aesthetic, this casual restaurant serves fresh, local seafood and American fare. To start, I ordered a Margarita. I know, it doesn’t scream Cape Cod, but, hey, I wanted one. It was light and refreshing, no complaints here.

Then, for the table to start, we had the Smoked Bluefish (smoked in-house, horseradish cream, crackers). This was really great. The fish had a light, flaky and meaty texture with a perfectly balanced smoked flavor. Paired with the creaminess and slight bite of the horseradish cream, and the saltiness and crunch of the crackers, it was a great combination for an excellent starter.

For my entree I ordered one of their specials that night, the Swordfish (grilled Atlantic Swordfish, kalamata olive mashed potatoes, asparagus, roasted tomato, red wine jus). This was an incredible dish. The portion was perfect and the entire meal was flavorful and well balanced. The fish was perfectly cooked, giving it just the right texture, and rich in flavor from the jus. The potatoes were creamy and buttery, and the olives, similar to a tapenade, added a nice saltiness to counteract the richness of the potatoes. Then, for some fresh crispness, the asparagus was just the right touch, and a bit of added acidity from the tomatoes balanced out the dish very nicely.

And then, dessert was a must. Now, I didn’t order the dessert, and couldn’t find it on their menu afterward, so, I can’t say with 100% certainty what it was. But, I will say that it was ridiculously good. It was almost like a warm, rich, cookie pie served with vanilla ice cream. So, dessert, whatever you were, you were delicious and I loved you.

The Shorts:
Name: Wild Goose Tavern

The Long and Short: Would I go back? Yes. The atmosphere is casual, yet sophisticated, the service is excellent, and the food was great.
Would I recommend it? For sure. And, it’s located right in Downtown Chatham, right in the thick of many quaint shops.
