Balthazar

So, I feel like 2015 is my year of visiting places that have been around for a while, that I’ve, for whatever reason, yet to go. Balthazar has been around for almost 20 years, which is often a rarity in NYC, let alone anywhere. Well, I finally made my way over to SoHo to check out their brunch.

Reservations are definitely recommended, since they’re hardly available, if you don’t have one, you’ll most likely have to wait. But, if you want to pick up some of their pastries and breads, you can just pop into their bakery right next door to get your fix. Otherwise, you’ll enter the grand, open dining room for some traditional bistro fare.

I ordered the Smoked Salmon (with crème fraîche and toasted brioche). The presentation was really nice, with diced egg white, herbs, yolks, and capers and onion on the side. This was a really lovely dish, the salmon was fresh and flavorful, and the brioche bread was light and buttery.

The Shorts:
Name: Balthazar
Location: 80 Spring Street, NYC
The Long and Short: Would I go back? Yes, the atmosphere just has a special feel to it and the service is wonderful.
Would I recommend it? Yes, I’d make sure to snag a reservation before going, because, who likes to wait anyway? And if you’re not in for the whole thing, check out their bakery next door.
